Portrait sketching is the art of creating a visual representation of a person’s likeness through quick, expressive, and often preliminary drawings. These sketches aim to capture the essential features and character of the subject rather than intricate details. Having completed the sketch, one can continue to develop the sketch, enhance the accuracy, include more detail, and thereby render a final drawing or painting. Whether we are sketching, drawing, or painting a portrait, it may be done with many different mediums. We can use dry (pencil, graphite, charcoal, pastel) or wet (watercolour, acrylics, oils, inks) mediums. Portraits may be completed using a single or mixed media.
