CLE3.1-03 Teaching in Connected and Online Classes – My journey from here

Innovation causes change. Change takes effort and requires the learning of new skills and the broadening of one’s understanding. as with all change processes, motivation is underpinned by a sense of value and purpose in moving to change. A step at a time, with a sense of achievement inspires confidence to progress further. All too often the end point may seem unattainable from our current position. If taken as a journey, rather than as a single step, we go further and may surprise ourselves when looking back at how far we have actually come.

This video shows the progression from basic teaching competencies with limited technology application, to a position where one can teach remotely (multi-class delivery) and engage interactively and effectively online in live teaching scenarios.

Time to Reflect

Where are you positioned on your journey? Consider your degree of confindence and competence in terms of teaching in the following scenarios:

  • Applying Basic ICT Skills – Able to confidently and competently use my computing device (PC, Laptop, Tablet, Smartphone) in class, project content materials on a surface (Wall, Projection Surface) and use the technology to support me in my teaching activities.
  • Applying Connected (In-Class) Skills – Able to confidently use class based technology (Smartboards, Document Cameras, Audio-Visual Equipment) to support my teaching efforts. Able to provide support to learners using their own technology in class to support their learning efforts.
  • Online Teaching Skills – Able to support a collaborative learning environment in-class or online where content can be co-created, shared live during sessions by myself or learners. Able to setup, manage and drive online live teaching sessions that are interactive and engaging for learners and can apply necessary features including breakout rooms, polling, audience response, chat services etc.

Where to from here? Having identified your own position, how are you going to plan for your skill and competency development? Set yourself goals to achieve and time to practice and build confidence as you progress. Perhaps work with colleagues to challenge each other and support each other as you progress.
