Effective Substitution of Physical Specific-Purpose Device by using “Calculator” Application on Smartphone.

Participant Challenge/s

Determine cost of buying 50 items for stock. Items normally at 14.50 each, but you can get discount of 10% if paid cash up front?

• Use calculator to determine normal total price for 50 items
• Use calculator to determine discounted total price for 50 items
• Use calculator to determine amount saved if paid cash up front for 50 items

Explore Calculator Functionality:

• Participant to familiarise themselves with the functionality of the Calculator application.
• Participant can explore other Calculator Apps in their device specific Application Store.

Assessment

Verify process used by participants, as well as correct answers. Not a mathematical exercise, focus on ability to access and use calculator.
